March 11, 2012, marks the one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck the Tohoku (northeastern) region of Japan and triggered the world's worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl. The crisis raised national concerns over nuclear power and its impacts on health and the environment, as well as skepticism about information from the government. At the same time, the disaster has inspired grassroots action and responses from the civil society.
