PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION
You are invited to participate in a pilot study to determine the value of the Inceptia Institute’s Personal Financial Management Certification for North Carolina teachers and counselors. There is no cost to pilot participants ($650 value). You will receive CEUs and gain the knowledge required to obtain certification and a credential. In addition, you will be prepared to teach personal finance concepts with confidence. Thirty contact hours (3 CEUs) will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
Background
Inceptia offers a self-paced, online personal financial management certification with a dynamic curriculum and one-on-one support. The curriculum consists of 15 core subjects and includes textbooks, instructor-led videos, a community forum, and online tools to reinforce learning objectives. Discovery Education STEM Camp
As
part of our commitment to effective STEM education for all students, we are
excited to announce the launch of the Discovery Education STEM Camp – a dynamic
series of standards-aligned curricula available at no cost to schools,
districts, non-profit organizations, and parents for use as part of summer
camps, after-school STEM programs, or wherever support is needed. Created
in collaboration with leading educators, STEM Camp combines hands-on labs,
engineering challenges, digital investigations, and more…all designed to
immerse kids in the grand challenges of science set forth by the National

Seven C’s of CCSSM: Professional Development for Math I, II, and III

During the summer of 2013, NC DPI is offering course-specific professional development to support secondary mathematics teachers in implementing the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, based on the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Faculty from Meredith College, UNG-Greensboro, and Appalachian State University along with secondary teacher leaders will provide 2-day institutes in each Region that focus on critical aspects of the standards for each course - Math I, Math II, and Math III - and will model the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
Highlights of the professional development include opportunities for participants to focus on
• Learning new content
• Solving tasks in context
• Engaging in conversations
• Communicating mathematical understanding
• Making connections within mathematics and across disciplines
• Building coherence in the curriculum
• Cultivating pedagogical diversity
This professional development is provided free to LEAs. Each participant is requested to bring a hard copy (printed on one side only to allow for additional notes) of the Standards for Mathematical Practice (pages 6-8 in the Common Core) and a copy of the standards for the particular course they are attending.
