Principals, Faculty, and Staff,
Once again this year, you have
funds set aside for teachers at your school for courses taken online through
Learn NC. The primary focus area is generally in the area of extending 21st
Century Skills. The award allows you to use the funds at your school for the
extension of 21st Century Skills. 21st Century Skills are
a pressing concern for our district and it was the reason for writing the
grant. With that being said, a principal may see a critical and pressing need
for the money (currently we have a limited amount of money that is available
for only a short period of time) to be used on a different type of course.
We are not going to hamstring you, but as mentioned the grant was written with
21st Century Skills in mind. The money is available on a first come
first served basis.
We are especially looking for
teachers who would like to take the three phases of the Carolina Online Teacher
(COLT) program and then be willing to write their own professional development
course for your school in a standardized format. If you have teachers that you
believe would benefit your school by completing this program, please encourage
them to register for those courses.
Below you will find a link to a
catalog to find courses that meet these requirements. If you believe that
you have a teacher that might be interested or if your school could benefit by
a teacher taking one of these classes then have them register at the links
below.
In addition, teachers will need to
register in the Staff Development Manager – http://staffdev.ucps.k12.nc.us/
. Some courses have a prior approval already in the system, but many courses do
not. Our plan is to reallocate funds each month to schools that are
utilizing the funds quickly so we can receive maximum benefit from their
knowledge throughout the year.
The process will require your
approval in order to use your funds. The teacher(s) will come to you to get
your approval and if you agree, then send them to the link below (http://goo.gl/F7Rrw) to
register. We will subtract the cost of the course from your allotment.
Additional awards will be made to your school if you are able to quickly
disperse your funds. If you have any questions, then please don’t hesitate to
contact me. Please see the upcoming list of courses at the bottom of
this email. Thank you.
