Seven C’s of CCSSM: Professional Development for Math I, II, and III

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION SUBMISSION IS 5:00 PM MAY 22, 2013

NC DPI is providing this workshop to LEAs at no cost, however, transportation, meals and lodging expenses will not be covered by NC DPI.

If you have questions regarding this workshop, please contact Maria Pitre-Martin at 919-807-3817 or feedback@dpi.nc.gov.

During the summer of 2013, NC DPI is offering course-specific professional development to support secondary mathematics teachers in implementing the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, based on the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Faculty from Meredith College, UNG-Greensboro, and Appalachian State University along with secondary teacher leaders will provide 2-day institutes in each Region that focus on critical aspects of the standards for each course - Math I, Math II, and Math III - and will model the Standards for Mathematical Practice.

Highlights of the professional development include opportunities for participants to focus on
• Learning new content
• Solving tasks in context
• Engaging in conversations
• Communicating mathematical understanding
• Making connections within mathematics and across disciplines
• Building coherence in the curriculum
• Cultivating pedagogical diversity

This professional development is provided free to LEAs. Each participant is requested to bring a hard copy (printed on one side only to allow for additional notes) of the Standards for Mathematical Practice (pages 6-8 in the Common Core) and a copy of the standards for the particular course they are attending.
